The Last Sunrise arrives on Prime Video this Wednesday

The Last Sunrise follows Ry, a college student managing a chronic illness, through what might be her last easy summer. Sent to Mallorca with her overprotective mother, she falls for a local named Julián just as her health and a family secret both start catching up with her. Maia Reficco leads as Ry, with Eva Longoria as her mother Isolde and Fernando Lindez as Julián.

Director Carlson Young shot much of the film on location in Mallorca, including scenes at the fortress of Sa Fortaleza de Pollença, so the romance plays out against a real coastline rather than a studio approximation of Spain.

The story comes from Anna Todd's 2025 novel of the same name. Todd built her career on the After series, which began as Wattpad fan fiction, so an original novel adapted for the screen is a different kind of project for her. Anna Klassen wrote the screenplay, and Todd produces.

Young brought in composer Isom Innis, a frequent collaborator, to score the film rather than handing the job to someone new, a choice that keeps the music tied closely to her own sensibility as a director.

The Last Sunrise streams globally on Prime Video starting Wednesday 26 August. It is a romance built around illness and family secrets that resists turning either into a moral, more curious about how one summer can quietly rearrange what someone believed about their own life.
