The new trailer for Supergirl confirms a 26 June 2026 theatrical release from Warner Bros.
Pictures, the second film in James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DC Universe following 2025's Superman. Craig Gillespie directs from a script by Ana Nogueira, adapting Tom King and Bilquis Evely's 2021-22 comic miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Milly Alcock plays Kara Zor-El in her first lead film role after breakout supporting work on House of the Dragon, sending Kara across the galaxy on a revenge mission accompanied by a young warrior and her super-powered dog, Krypto. Matthias Schoenaerts plays the villain Krem, with David Corenswet reprising Superman and Jason Momoa appearing as the bounty hunter Lobo.
The draw here is the tonal swing: early trade reactions describe a dystopian, road-movie register with Mad Max-inflected violence, a marked departure from the brighter Superman that opened the DCU. Adapting King and Evely's miniseries also means Supergirl skips the character's familiar Silver Age origin story entirely, starting instead from an older, weary, more morally compromised Kara on a revenge quest.
Confirmed: the June 26 theatrical date, Alcock's casting as Kara, Gillespie's direction, Nogueira's script, and the Woman of Tomorrow source material. Unconfirmed at the time of this trailer: the final runtime and how explicitly the film sets up future DCU installments.
